The Essen Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Hospital and the Essen Day Hospital are both located in Ladysmith, Kwazulu Natal, which lies approximately halfway between Durban and Johannesburg.

Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of medical specialists, nursing staff and Allied Professionals who aim to provide excellent healthcare in a compassionate, caring environment where patients are treated with dignity and respect at all times.

A sub-acute hospital is a self-contained, functionally independent hospital facility that treats stable patients with sub-­acute conditions who require hospitalisation but do not require high technological diagnostic procedures, treatment or surgery. Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of Medical Specialists, Nursing Staff, and Allied Health Professionals, such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists.

Essen provides patients with a safe, compassionate, caring environment with dedicated staff, who are on hand to provide 24 hour nursing care. If you would like to have a patient admitted or require further information, please contact our Case Manager on 036 631 0671 and he will be happy to assist with your query. Referrals from all Medical practitioners are welcome.
